CTTIC from the inside...
Hey Heroes! I'm writing to you from my layover in Toronto, on my way to Regina, Saskatchewan, for the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council. CTTIC's members are provincial associations, not individuals. This is my fifth year (in total) serving on the CTTIC Board, and I wanted to share a little with you about why I've enjoyed it so much.
- Linguists are my tribe. Working as a freelancer can feel lonely sometimes, and it's possible to go years without ever meeting your clients or colleagues. The CTTIC Board meets once a month (more frequently around exam time and other events) and it's so reassuring to know you're not alone. Or the only one going crazy.
- The profession is bigger than me. CTTIC helps maintain professional standards through the national exam. Besides the fact that becoming certified can double your income, helping other translators and interpreters navigate the certification process is immensely rewarding. The more certified professionals, the safer our communities become.
- One size doesn't fit all. The Council is composed of representatives from coast to coast to coast, and each province does things a little bit differently. Meeting together means we can learn about what is working in each province or region, and bring fresh ideas back home to see if they're a good fit.
My tenure as Vice President is coming to an end, and I want to encourage YOU to consider joining the CTTIC Board. It's a great way to not only connect with, but grow and shape the professional language community in Canada.
This week, we'll meet for two days for the AGM, and then host the second ever CTTIC conference! We've been planning since January, and have collected a great lineup of speakers to cover topics that will be both timely and useful to you.
Registering online costs only $65 and gives you access to all the sessions and the recordings!

And if you've been feeling like it's time to pivot in your language services, I'll be leading two workshops: More Than One Way to Translate on Friday afternoon, and Subtitle Success on Saturday.
I hope to see you this weekend!
To your success,
Catharine
