Happy Thanksgiving!
Oct 14, 2025
Hey Hero!
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving (we celebrate on the first Monday of October)!
Today I am thankful for the opportunity to coach and serve all of you.
I am thankful to be able to work as an interpreter to help immigrants and refugees in the Spanish-speaking community where I live, and to participate in fun (telenovelas) and interesting (community health research) translation projects with impact far beyond Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
I am thankful that working as a freelancer means I can show up for medical appointments for my parents.
I am thankful that I can work from home or from anywhere.
What I'm working on:
- Subtitle translation and QC for two full-length films. One was a war film that made me cry; the other was dialogue-heavy with a shocking ending that made me go back and look for clues as I went through it again and again.
- A long community health report for a U.N. agency operating in Latin America
- Medical reports for a local government agency
- Song lyrics for a major streaming service
- Certified translation of academic records
What I'm excited about:
- The Certification Success Masterclass went well! We covered the difference between accreditation and certification and practical success strategies for passing the ILSAT, CTTIC and ATA exams. We also went over how to actually certify a translation, step by step. I will let you know when the replay is available for purchase.
- CTTIC is holding its first annual conference in Calgary, Alberta, on October 18, 2025! You can register here to attend in person or online.
Thank you for reading.
To your success,
Catharine
