I didn't have to hope. Here's why.

The sheriffs at the security checkpoint looked surprised to see me leaving so soon.

This afternoon made it three for three.

Over three days, at three different courthouses, I arrived ready to interpret... and three different clients never showed up.

Yesterday, as I quietly gathered my things and prepared to bow out of the courtroom (as protocol requires), a lawyer leaned over and whispered sympathetically, "I hope you still get paid."

I didn't hope.

I didn't have to.

My contract guarantees a four-hour minimum, whether the accused appears or not, whether my services are ultimately needed or not.
