Income Streams That Flex With You
Hey Hero! Diversifying your services isn’t just smart—it’s your freelance superpower.
We all know that freelancing has its highs and lows. But the bills? They still show up like clockwork. That's why diversifying your language income is essential. When one service dips, another can carry the load. This week, I'm using my diverse service portfolio to fuel my income and still keep things fresh and fulfilling.
Court Interpreting: I'm booked for two full days of interpretation at the provincial court, so I get to dress up and get out of the house. Pro tip: wear comfy shoes in case you have to stand at the microphone instead of sit, and turn on your autoresponder to handle any translation requests that come in.
Audiovisual translation: This week, I'll translate five songs from Latin American Spanish into English for a major streaming service. This project has been going on for a year, creating predictable income while exposing me to artists and genres I never would have found otherwise! My favorite song from last week was Las Botas del Charro by Vicente Fernández (swoon!).
Certified translation: In terms of official documents, I've got a few birth certificates and academic transcripts in the pipeline. I outsourced the transcripts and diploma to a new translator; after making any needed revisions, I'll stamp, sign, and send the document package digitally and by mail.
Coaching: Speaking of certified translation, in our group coaching session with the Bilingual Heroes last Thursday, we covered how to certify a translation, step by step. We'll dive into much more detail during next month's masterclass on Certification (more info soon)!
Hero Highlight: Congratulations to Seth P., who has been setting up in-person meetings with his target clients while traveling through Brazil! What a smart way to travel!
Finally, if you've realized that it's time to diversify YOUR language income, next week I'm hosting a free webinar on How to Make Money with Languages. Come join us and share the link with your friends and colleagues!
To your success,
